d3rang3d Interviews : Bill Moseley
Submitted by : Vampyra
He's starred in countless films that have had a huge impact on the horror genre, including Night of the Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and The Devils Rejects - so when our good friend Vampyra got chance to ask him a few questions for d3rang3d we jumped at the chance.
Many thanks to Bill Moseley for taking the time out to talk with us, and many thanks to Vampyra for submitting the interview.
Vampyra : You've appeared in a lot of the films over the years and played a lot of different characters - but which film and character would you say you have most enjoyed and have the fondest memories of, and why?
Bill Moseley : That's kind of like asking which of your kids is your favorite child. I appreciate all my roles, love the range of characters I've gotten to play. Otis B. Driftwood has been pretty good to me; so has Johnny in Savini's "Night of the Living Dead."
But if I had a chainsaw to my throat and had to pick one role, one job, etc., I'd have to go with "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" and my main man, Choptop! Choptop broke me into the joy of monster-movie acting, and let's face it, without Choptop, I wouldn't have gotten the part of Otis! Thank you, Choptop, dog will hunt!
Vampyra : Say your name to any horror fan and they instantly think Otis Driftwood. If given chance, would you like to play him again and take him to new and bloodier places - if so, where could you picture him going next?
Bill Moseley : I'd love to climb back into Otis's skin and go for another hell ride. How and where and when that's going to happen, you'd have to ask Rob Zombie. I'm not sure what's left to do with Otis - maybe explore his art a little more, give him a girlfriend, take him somewhere sexy.

Vampyra : After so many films, there must be a great story from set that our readers would love to hear. What's the most amusing story that you can share with us?
Bill Moseley : We'd just finished Take 12 of the scene in "Chainsaw 2" where I'm bashing in LG's (Lou Perryman's) head with a claw hammer when Tobe Hooper said, "That's great, Bill. Let's do one more." Take 13?! "Tobe," I asked, "am I doing something wrong?" "Hell, no, Bill," he replied, "I'm just having fun watching!"
Folks, may you all be lucky enough in your acting career to work for a director like Tobe Hooper!!!
Vampyra : Who've you most enjoyed working with in your movie career and why? And also, is there anyone you'd love to work with in the future?
Bill Moseley : I love working with people who are into what they're doing, directors like Rob Zombie, Tobe Hooper, Tom Savini, Sam Raimi, Darren Lynn Bousman and actors like Lance Henriksen, Mr. Paul Sorvino, Sid Haig, Karen Black, Clea DuVal and Udo Keir!
I've worked with a lot of tomatoes, people who phone it in, and it's no damn fun. Give me the cool cast of "Carnivale" or "Devil's Rejects' or hell, "Werewolf Women of the SS" any day, and I'm a happy man.

Vampyra : You're starring in a number of forthcoming movies, including several I'd not heard of which are listed on IMDB - Dead Air and Grinder - as well as the great sounding Repo : Genetic Opera. Can you tell us a bit about your current/future projects?
Bill Moseley : Well, just to set the record straight, I'm not doing "Grinder". "Dead Air" is alive & in limbo; 80% of it is in the can, and apparently it looks great. If you have a few hundred G's to spare they just might take you on as a producer and finish the darn thing!
I just finished "Repo: the Genetic Opera" for Darren Bousman up in Toronto. It's a horror/science fiction opera (all singing, no spoken lines!), and the incredidble cast includes Paris Hilton, Paul Sorvino, Sarah Brightman, Anthony Head (from "Buffy"), Alexa Vega and Ogre from Skinny Puppy! And yes, I sing and dance and kill my way through this wonderfully strange dystopia!
In the next couple of weeks I'm set to appear in an Army/Bible action horror movie called "Ice 44," starring Cuba Gooding Jr. And then it's on to New York State to shoot "Blood Night."
After that, I'm looking forward to a family vacation in Japan!
Vampyra : And, the open question - your chance to say absolutely anything. Cuss the critics, plug your favourite beer, thank the fans. The microphone is yours, so speak away and anything goes.
Bill Moseley : And finally...I just want to thank the fans for their undying support of all my efforts, both great & puny, to entertain and amuse them. I'm having a ball acting in my favorite genre, hanging with my fellow monsters at horror conventions, making music with guitar god Buckethead (Cornbugs)!
If you'd told me 20 years ago that this would be my fate, I'd'a said you were fuckin'crazy!!! |
